Intern, Engineering and Operations

Intern / Student, Full-time · Karlsruhe

Your mission

Join us in solving one of industrial robotics' toughest challenges

R3 Robotics is developing the AI-powered dismantling platform that transforms end-of-life electric vehicle systems into strategic sources of critical materials. As global electrification accelerates, the surge in batteries and e-motors requires automated solutions that manual disassembly cannot provide. We are addressing this industrial bottleneck by enabling the automated dismantling of complex systems at scale through computer vision, artificial intelligence, and specialized robotic tooling.

Following a successful €20M Series A funding round led by HG Ventures and Suma Capital, we are expanding across Europe and preparing for our entry into the United States market in 2026. We partner with major industrial recyclers and automotive OEMs to deliver measurable impact. If you seek to work on advanced robotics within a well-funded organization scaling internationally, this is your opportunity

YOUR ROLE

In addition to supporting CAD design and mechanical development, the intern will gain hands-on exposure to our lithium‑ion battery disassembly processes. This includes working directly with battery packs alongside our engineering team, contributing to diagnostics, controlled disassembly activities, and prototype testing. You are pragmatic, open minded, demonstrate real willingness to help and looking for an internship for your last year of study? Join our dynamic team to evolve and grow your skills in a fast-paced environment !

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate to the entire process, from concept to deployment.
  • Work closely with mechanical and automation Engineers to integrate existing and new components or sub-systems.
  • Contribute to design discussion for hardware selection and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure that designs comply with industry standards.
  • Design systems for automated machinery using CAD tools.
  • Perform technical drawings in line with industry standards.
  • Develop concepts (state of art, documentation).
  • Develop prototypes (assembly, testing).
  • Support controlled disassembly of lithium-ion battery packs following internal safety procedures.
  • Assist with electrical diagnostics on battery modules and cells (voltage checks, discharging, basic troubleshooting).
  • Handle battery packs and components in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide continuous improvement efforts.
Your profile
  • Last year of Mechanical Engineering school
  • First mechanical experience is required (Assembly, prototyping etc.)
  • Experience in our industry will be a definite advantage
  • Awareness of, or willingness to learn, battery safety practices and high‑voltage handling procedures.
  • Proficient English communication skills
  • Hands on and proactive mindset
  • Ability to work in a high-performing, demanding environment handling a broad variety of tasks
